2024 Mid-Season Update

2024 Mid-Season Update

We're halfway through recruiting season and we’re getting quite a few questions about how this season compares to previous seasons.

The answer is we've seen two significant differences.

Difference #1 – Many agents are waiting

Traditionally, December and January are the two months when the most producing agents switch companies. But, they typically make the decision to switch during the fall or early winter. That’s why September through mid-December are strong months for recruiting appointments.

This year is different. When we’re making our recruiting calls, we’re hearing more agents say they are waiting to see how things play out over the next few months.

The industry changes are still relatively new. Then there’s uncertainty around the market, interest rates, and the new government.

So, even some agents who are either considering or planning on making a move aren’t taking recruiting appointments yet. Instead, they’re asking us to follow up again in a few months.

Difference #2 – Many agents are moving

This difference may seem to contradict the first difference. But, just as we’re hearing many agents are waiting, we’re also hearing many agents have already switched companies.

That’s unusual for this time of year. And, ironically, some of the same reasons certain agents are waiting to move are some of the same reasons agents have already moved.

The agents who’ve moved are telling us they knew they needed to switch brokerages regardless of what happens in the coming months. They didn’t want to wait because they knew they needed to be in a different situation as quickly as possible.

We've also had quite a few conversations with agents who were forced to switch because their companies went out of business.

The combination of those two differences makes this the most unusual recruiting season we’ve experienced in the eight years we’ve been making recruiting calls.

It is possible, if not likely, an unprecedented number of producing agents change brokerages over the next six months.

So if you’re interested in recruiting agents, there is no better time than now to double down on your recruiting efforts.
